Katerina Plotnikov and her Animals

I've recently come across the work of Katerina Plotnikov.  I admire her sense of traditional portraiture but I'm more interested in her use of live, dangerous animals.  It strengthens the work's natural themes.

Haryana School, India.

In November 2013 I visited the school of Haryana, in Faridabad, Northern India.
I'm not normally a documentary/travel photographer but in such an interesting new environment I was unable to resist giving it a shot.
Unlike my normal work I've not retouched the images and shown the natural beauty of the scene.

COMING SOON - A Study of Haryana School, Faridabad, India

Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize

After not making it into the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize I took a closer look at the more successful applicants. Each piece has a strong story and social commentary behind it, moreso than my own lighter hearted efforts.  Here I share with you my favourites.

The Twins by Dorothee Deiss - 2nd Place
I love the colour palette of this open portrait based on time tested relationships.  Their pose is a refreshing change from your average family portrait.

Phoebe and the Rat by Laura Stevens
This photographer was focusing on the relations between man and pets, the lighting gives it a beautiful timeless feel.
